Orla Kiely, the fashion star
The Irish designer has just launched a new diffusion collection with Target.
Irish designer Orla Kiely's career has never been stronger. Already one of the biggest names in fashion with an A-list clientele, she has just launched a highly anticipated capsule collection with Target - the same day that grandmother to England's newest prince Carole Middleton wore her dress to meet her daughter in hospital.
Kiely celebrated the launch of her tech-accessory collaboration with Target last night in New York City with fashionistas Alexa Chung and Karen Elson. The celebration marked one of her busiest 24 hours in the fashion press as Carole Middleton chose a Kiely creation to greet the international press.
The Duchess of Cambridge is already a huge fan of the Irish designer, having worn a brown printed coat of hers on several occasions, which has only increased her profile in the US even further.
"I've worked with Target before and they were a pleasure, very professional and respectful of our brand," she told Elle magazine. "Design and integrity are very much a part of their D.N.A. For this project we collaborated with Belkin, who have developed beautiful products that I am absolutely thrilled with.
"I always consider the product and how the print is used. We chose four classic prints from our archive, all doing a different job through color and design, but absolutely recognizable as Orla Kiely."
And even the designer has her favourite items among the fun collection. "My favorite piece is the gray and cream '60s stem soft iPhone case with a flash of orange around the sides. I love the fact that it is glossy and smooth, reminiscent of shiny plastic raincoats and gumboots from the Mary Quant era."
