Man (23) set to appear at special court sitting for fatal hit and run

A man (23) will appear before a Special Sitting of Loughrea District Court tonight at 10pm charged in connection with this collision.

The man had been detained at Loughrea Garda Station in relation to the fatal road traffic accident on Wednesday.

A 68-year-old cyclist, John White, was fatally injured when a vehicle hit him on the Gort Road in Loughrea, Co Galway at approximately 830pm yesterday.

Mr White, from St Laurences Field, Loughrea, was taken to University College Hospital Galway where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the vehicle did not stop at the scene.
