• 30 new GoCar vehicles to be added, bringing number to 100
GoCar, Ireland’s only car sharing initiative, today announced record numbers for new signups following on from its one year anniversary celebration at the start of the month. Since celebrating its anniversary on August 1st, GoCar has accumulated 610 new members in the past week constituting a 30% increase in its membership base. Perhaps more impressive is the 400 new signups on the day of the anniversary alone compared with 186 new members for the entire month of August in 2013.
To cater for this rapidly increasing membership base, GoCar is set to invest €600,000 in the service over the next year. This investment will result in 20 new bases in Dublin and Cork bringing the total number to 75 while GoCar will also add 30 new vehicles bringing its overall fleet to 100.
Colm Brady, managing director of GoCar commented; “We are thrilled with the high volume of new members on board and we expect our membership base to continue to grow in the next 12 months. More and more, consumers are turning to GoCar and seeing it as a viable alternative to owning a car. Car clubs like GoCar have been hugely successful in a host of major European and US cities to date and the concept is rapidly catching on now in Ireland. We have ambitious plans for the service over the next year and are investing to that end.”
GoCar works on a pay-per-trip basis which allows users the freedom to access a vehicle when and as they need it. Members using on-street GoCars aren’t charged for parking at any pay-and-display parking space, allowing users to budget for the essential vehicle trip they wish to make while removing the stress and cost associated with NCT’s, vehicle servicing and insurance premiums.
At the beginning of July, GoCar added a new base to the UCD campus with further additions expected at St. Stephens Green and Merrion Square in the coming months. There are currently 55 GoCar bases in Dublin and Cork.
