Veteran broadcaster Gay Byrne is to step down as chairman of the Road Safety Authority when his current contract finishes in November.
The 79-year-old will not seek an extension of his contract after spending eight years in the high profile role.
Meanwhile his show on Lyric FM, Sunday With Gay Bryne, will finish today for the summer.
But the broadcaster (who turns 80 in August) has insisted that it won't be his last radio show.
"I have always finished on the last Sunday in March... this is the same as previous years."
"It's not my final show ever."
Mr Byrne said he is taking the summer off to spend time with his Kathleen Watkins and their family.
Gay has been hosting the Sunday afternoon show on Lyric FM since 2006.
