The hunt for a fugitive who is a registered sex offender ended today when gardai arrested him in Cavan.

Missing registered sex offender Lorcan Halton from the Saracen area in Glasgow was traced at midnight.

The 45 year-old was arrested and is currently detained in police custody.

Halton was believed to have left Scotland on January 9.

He was due in court on January 15 but failed to appear, sparking a manhunt.

Police in Glasgow had warned the public not to approach the missing sex offender whom they described as “dangerous”.

Police had appealed for the public's assistance to locate him when extensive inquiries proved unsuccessful.
