Fearless RTE presenter Ella McSweeney demonstrated how to kill a turkey tonight on television.
And the Ear to the Ground presenter insists she would wrap her hands around a turkey's neck "all over again".
Despite criticism from animal rights organisations, Dublin presenter McSweeney stands by her decision.
“Animal rights groups are talking about me strangling the turkey and that’s fine,” McSweeney said.
“That’s what happens for us to eat meat, animals die.
“You can’t take off a turkey’s wing and fry it; that would probably be a lot worse for the animal.
“I am a meat eater so as long as it’s done respectfully it’s pretty straight forward for me,” she added.
The Animal Rights Action Network (ARAN) called on Ear to the Ground to remove the scene because they felt there was “nothing traditional about killing a fully conscious, sentient animal who, like any dog or cat, values their life too”.
However, McSweeney feels that eating meat and killing animals for meat is a "personal" thing.
“If I wasn’t able to kill the bird I wouldn’t be able to eat it and that’s the way I look at it.
“It’s a personal thing, if people don’t want to see what happens that’s fine but I would like to know more.”
Ear to the Ground has received overwhelming interest from people about the subject, according to McSweeney.
