More than 200 pharmacies in Cork and Kerry are offering to dispose of unwanted and out-of-date medicines, between now and mid-March.

The free service for householders is aimed at removing the risks of having old medicines lying around the house, which can lead to accidental poisoning.

There are an average of eight accidental deaths due to medication poisoning each year in Cork and Kerry.
