Leading publisher vows to battle cancer
A leading publisher has revealed he is battling stomach cancer.
But John O'Connor (right) last night said he intends to be around to see the autobiography of entertainer Twink become a bestseller.
The 53-year-old owner of Blackwater Press has been one of the best-known publishers in Ireland for the last 30 years.
His books include political tomes on Mary Robinson and Bertie Ahern, and a biography of rugby great Tony Ward. However, the Offaly man was diagnosed with stomach cancer at Christmas.
"It was absolutely shocking news. The darkest day of my whole life," Mr O'Connor said
"I've three tumours and I'm undergoing treatment at the moment, but the great thing about publishing is that you're not needed until the final manuscript lands," the former teacher added.'
'Unzipped' by Twink is due to hit the shops in September.
