PEOPLE afflicted by arthritis can enjoy a cuppa without the hassle of boiling a kettle, thanks to the Kug.
A cross between a mug and a kettle, it provides an on-the-go tea or coffee making facility without needing a kettle and yesterday it won the first Arthritis Ireland Easy to Use Design award.
Designed by NCAD students Alan Harrison and Ben Millett, The Kug contains a hidden element which is activated when placed on a dock.
Heating temperatures can be altered by turning the cup's position.
It boils in just 90 seconds and can hold half a litre of your favourite beverage.
The students were inspired after speaking to people living with rheumatoid arthritis who spoke of their difficulty in lifting heavy kettles.
Research by Arthritis Ireland shows almost 80pc of sufferers say their condition affects their lives, with 60pc of those questioned saying having access to a range of adapted products would help improve their lives.
