Warning over 'bodybuilding' supplements

Monday December 07 2009

A warning has been issued about a number of products labelled as containing synthetic steroidal compounds, marketed as dietary supplements through an internet site, bodybuilding.com.

The Irish Medicines Board says these products are not authorised for use in Ireland and cannot be regarded as safe.

Pat O'Mahony, chief executive, said unauthorised steroid-containing medicines could have serious effects, including acute liver injury and increased risk of heart attacks and strokes.
