'I dread the thought of early morning exercise'

5.40am

Monday January 23 2012

My alarm goes off and I get up, put on my running gear, hop into the car and drive to RTE. I eat a banana along the way.

6.40am

The first thing I do when I arrive in Montrose is go for a run. I do several miles on the mornings that I don't have to be filming early. At this hour the thought of running is horrible but I just get on with it. I find that afterwards I've loads of energy and the run really sets me up for the day.

7.30am

I drink plenty of water before showering, getting into my costume and accessories for the day's filming of 'Fair City' and then go up to have my make-up done.

9.45am

We break and go over to the canteen for breakfast. I have porridge with honey and a cup of milky tea. The other actors and I sit around eating and having a catch-up.

10am

We go back and our make-up is checked before we return to the set. My storylines are busy and I'm in nearly every scene.

12.30pm

Because I know I won't be finished filming until late this evening, I have dinner in the middle of the day. Today I walk over to the canteen where I get a stir-fry with sweetcorn, broccoli, onion, peppers, noodles and chicken. I have a Vita-fit drink to keep up the energy.

I also have a cup of milky tea and because I've done my run, I treat myself to a Bounty bar. I've had irritable bowel for a while and I know I have to avoid fatty and creamy foods and also white bread.

1.30pm

I have my make-up checked before we start shooting again. It's a hectic afternoon for me but I make sure to keep drinking water.

4pm

I have a Muller-Light strawberry yogurt and a handful of nuts along with a bag of popcorn.

6.30pm

I go up to my dressing-room and change out of my costume before heading home.

7.30pm

My boyfriend Gordon is really good and has a bowl of soup ready for me. At the start of the week I prepared a pot of homemade soup using butternut squash, carrot, pepper, onions, celery and vegetable stock.

I'm always hungry when I get in but I want something light at this hour of night, which is why I normally have a bowl of homemade soup. I also have a corn cake with some hummus, along with a cup of milky tea.

8.30pm

I remove my make-up before getting into bed and running through my scenes. It's a busy time for me with 'Fair City', but then there are times when I could be off for a week or two and then I get a chance to be at home and spend time with my daughter Stella so it's great.

Sorcha Furlong of 'Fair City' is touring with Girls Night. Dates include Naas, Galway, Wexford, Kilkenny, Waterford, Cork, Limerick and Dublin
