YouTube may be full of cat videos but dogs dominate social 'petworking'

WHILE YouTube may be full of cat videos, it’s the dog that is more likely to have a social networking profile, new research shows.

The research was conducted in Great Britain by Yummy Pets, a new social network for pet owners which claims 150,000 members there.

Such sites have taken off in recent years and now app stores feature technologies designed for the use of pets like Touch Paw for iPad which encourages cats to bat at a viral fish onscreen and dogs to touch biscuits with their paws to score points.

Research by DoggyLoot.com showed that 14pc of dog owners maintain a Facebook page for their pet while 6pc boasted Twitter accounts.

UK research also shows that one in 10 of all UK pets have their own Facebook page, Twitter account or YouTube channel.

Some are more famous than others.

Andy Murray’s border terrier Maggie May has 23,000 Twitter followers boosted recently by her master’s win at Wimbledon.
