Hundreds of young Irish hopefuls made a bid for stardom today.

They converged at the Dublin Convention Centre for the first open auditions for this year’s X Factor.

Gemma from Donegal sang ‘In the Arms of An Angel’ for independent.ie while waiting her turn to perform.

Meanwhile, Darren from Summerhill in Dublin strummed his guitar and belted out Snow Patrol's 'Chasing Cars'.

The main X factor judges – headed up by Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole – were not in attendance for this bout of auditions.

However, they will be back in Ireland later in the summer for the main event.

Daisy from Lucan managed to procure a ticket after her audition today and will return in the morning for another round.

She showed off her talents for independent.ie with her rendition of the Calvin Harris and Florence Welsh collaboration ‘Sweet Nothing’.
