Weird and wacky fun on the cards as 50,000 head to Electric Picnic

THREE-legged dogs, mad science, a theatre of food, a Zen garden and a paradise for music lovers is on offer at this weekend's Electric Picnic.

Almost 50,000 revellers will descend on the annual hippy and hipster-fest in Stradbally, Co Laois - but GAA fans are warned there will be no big screens to watch this weekend's football semi-final clash or the All-Ireland hurling final.

There's a packed schedule of the weird and wacky - along with music, of course, from headliners Blur and Florence and the Machine.

Festival director Melvin Benn said: "Last night I had a call from Grace Jones's agent saying how great she looked and how she will perform, so I expect there will be a large crowd to see her there."

And if the music gets too loud for some, they can relax at the My Lovely Ranch petting zoo, where three-legged rescue dogs and horses will enjoy the sounds from afar.

"We rescue them from all over Dublin; they've been abandoned in housing estates or thrown into wasteland areas," said Ted of My Lovely Ranch.
