Irish model Vogue Williams manages to slight a considerable consortium of her fellow countrymen as she labelled the Irish expat society living in Australia as ‘smelly’.
The 27-year-old was appearing an RTE documentary – 'Vogue Does Home & Away' – when she made the comment about malodorous Irish residents in the Summer Bay area.
On a visit to the location behind the hugely popular Aussie soap, Ms Williams encounters more Irish people than any other nationality as she strolls on the famous beach.
“It’s pretty mental being on this beach finally after watching it for almost 20 years. It’s just a pity about all the smelly Irish who are here,” the former Fade Street star joked.
“The most shocking fact about Summer Bay is not that it looks so much like Brittas Bay. It is that it seems to be almost exclusively populated with Irish people.”
Part-time DJ Williams recently spent two years living in Australia with her husband, former Westlife star Brian McFadden.
The self-confessed Home & Away addict brought this experience – and her love of the long-running hit show – to the documentary that aired last Thursday night.
The aim of the programme was to reflect on how the Down Under series has remained a staple in Irish teenager’s viewing schedule throughout the last 25 years.
