TV3 finds its funny bone with Gary and Barbara's new show

TV3 is not a station you associate with Irish comedy.
But that could be about to change.
The Diary can reveal Ballymount executives have signed up Après Match star Gary Cooke and actress Barbara Bergin to write and star in a new "tragicomedy" for the station.
As you would expect from TV3, it's not a mega production with the two stars delivering monologues to cameras.
Still, we're told the scripts the pair have come up with are razor sharp.
Think BBC's Marion And Geoff, which featured Welsh actor Rob Brydon as a mini-cab driver going through a messy divorce.
The highly talented Bergin was last seen in RTé sketch show Stew.
Given the popularity of Cooke in Après Match and the Saipan-inspired stage musical I,Keano, it should be quite a success.
Remember where you read about this new TV comedy first -- which will air in early 2012 after the Malahide-born actor finishes his run in Roddy Doyle's adaptation of Nikolai Gogol's classic satire The Government Inspector, which runs in the Abbey from November 24 to January 28.
