A NEW range of merchandise inspired by the hit TV series Downton Abbey will go on sale for Christmas.
The gift shop Past Times has announced it will be the only retailer to sell the items which will be available in all 110 stores across the UK and its Dublin store on Wicklow Street.
The range is made up of a series of mugs and cushions with the shows famously pithy one-liners written across them.
The phrases: "You'll find there's never a dull moment in this house", "What is a weekend?", “She is not entitled to opinions until she is married. Then her husband will tell her what her opinions are.”, “I Hanker for a simpler world. Is that a crime?” and “Oh good let’s talk about money”, all appear on the gifts.
The range echoes Past Times' very successful "Keep Calm and Carry On" series.
Penny Tunnell, Product Director at Past Times, said of the announcement: “Since it burst onto our screens in 2010, Downton Abbey quickly became a hugely popular series. People are quick to pick up on standout quotes and sayings from their favourite movies and TV shows and often like to adopt them into their lives, which is why we decided to make the popular Downton slogans such a big feature in the new range."
As well as the exclusive range, shoppers can also buy the Downton Abbey series 1 and 2, the Official Wall Calendar and The World of Downton Abbey Book at Past Times.
Past Times are set to launch a wider collection in September 2012.
Downton Abbey entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the 'most critically acclaimed television show' for 2011 - a first for a British television series. The third series of Downton Abbey will be broadcast in September 2012. And a Christmas special will go out on Christmas night.
