A MAN who left his bride-to-be on their wedding day was confronted on radio by his jilted bride’s aunt.
The man called in to Niall Boylan on 4FM today during a discussion on Rory McIlroy breaking off his engagement.
He told the presenter that after a conversation with his father the night before, he felt he couldn’t go through with the marriage.
“I pulled up outside the church. I’d my reservations the night before, but as I pulled up outside the church in the car I told the chauffeur to keep going.
“I’d doubts all along to be honest, but there’s no point in doing something you’re going to live to regret.
He told the show that 80 guests were invited to the wedding, and that his bride’s father had paid for everything.
“I was public enemy number one. I got cold feet – there’s no such thing as good timing for this,” he said.
Presenter Niall suggested that a few weeks before the wedding would have been better.
“I’m sorry and messed her around and made a mistake, and it was a very embarrassing day for her. No one would want to do that to anyone. It wasn’t a punishment, I just realised at the last minute it wasn’t for me.”
Boylan suggested he could have even rang her the night before the wedding, however the would-be groom revealed he was having second thoughts.
“When I got up that morning I thought I was going to go through with it, I didn’t plan to drive to the church and drive off again”
However the interview was interrupted when his former fiancee’s aunt rang in.
“I just heard you on the radio there. I’m (her) aunt, and you left her at the altar, and I’m glad you did.
“You’re a scumbag. You were no use.”
She revealed that her niece is now happily married.
However he interjected: “I’ll tell you one thing he’s welcome to her. The last few weeks I spent with her were hell on earth. What would you know what went on?”
Boylan had to cut the heated interview short as he was forced to go to the news.
