REAL-LIFE sisters Kelly and Robyn Thornton have opened the new series of 'Love/Hate' with a bang.
The Dublin-based siblings were introduced to viewers last night after being abducted by kingpin Nidge in the season four premiere of Stuart Carolan's award-winning drama.
The opening episode saw gangland criminals Nidge (Tom Vaughan-Lawlor) and Tommy (Killian Scott) kidnap the family of security van driver Peter Weldon.
Audiences saw 16-year-old Kelly's character form an unlikely bond with Tommy after the heist and when he returns to check on her, he ends up getting arrested by Detective Inspector Mick Moynihan, played by newcomer Brian F O'Byrne.
Kelly and 11-year-old Robyn were hand-picked by casting director Maureen Hughes to play the roles of two on-screen sisters and spent a week filming with the cast and crew.
"I had a lot of fun with Killian and Peter, we fell around the place laughing," said Robyn.
"Everybody was so nice to us and kept saying how lovely it was to have young people around."
While it was the sixth-class pupil's first acting job, up-and-coming starlet Kelly already had some experience under her belt.
"I had never really thought of being an actress before, but I absolutely love it now and . . .I've realised it's really what I want to do," Kelly, who attends St Louis High School in Rathmines, Dublin 6, told the Irish Independent.
"All the guys made me feel like I was very welcome, so it wasn't scary then at all. And Tom was brilliant, he was so nice to talk to on set."
There are several changes to the line-up for the current instalment of the RTE programme, which will see more focus on the detectives looking to bring down Nidge and his comrades, including Trinity College graduate Aaron Heffernan.
'Love/Hate' will air next Sunday at 9.30pm on RTE One.
