CHERYL Cole could be set for a shock return to the panel of X Factor USA according to reports.
Cole, who left the UK show to join Simon Cowell on the US version, was axed early in the first series after failing to impress producers.
It has now been reported that Cowell is eager to re-sign Cole for the struggling US version of the show.
The US version of the show has been labelled a flop by failing to match the massive 30m viewers rival American Idol gets – however it has even failed to match viewership of the UK show.
However it has been suggested that Cole’s return to the show could be as part of a settlement of a lawsuit she filed against producers following her dismissal.
Reports have also surfaced that new host Khloe Kardashian will also follow LA Reid and Britney Spears and not return to the show.
A showbiz insider said: “Bosses were hoping the Kardashian name would bring with it Kardashian ratings, however her lack of experience hasn’t been compensated by a ratings bump.”
It is believed Fox are giving the show one more series to improve its viewership, or it could be in danger of not returning for a fourth run.
