X FACTOR producers are believed to be attempting to sign up several British gold medallists to become mentors on the show.
The show is rumoured to be targeting Chris Hoy, Jessica Ennis, Bradley Wiggins and Mo Farah for appearances on the show, at a deal worth £250,000 (€320,000) each.
Simon Cowell is reported to have approached the athletes shortly after the closing ceremony.
"X Factor producers were literally jumping up and down with delight when they heard that all four Olympic athletes had agreed to do the show," a source told the Mirror.
"In Mo, Bradley, Chris and Jess he has bagged arguably the cream of the crop from Team GB, and he is ecstatic they are going to be involved."
However cyclist Chris Hoy has today denied the rumours on Twitter, saying : “Some amusing stories in press about me being a mentor on X-Factor; that's the first I've heard about it! #dontbelievethehype!"
X Factor returned to ITV on Saturday, however suffered a decline of over 2m viewers from the launch show last year.
