A VIDEO of an American news anchor responding to a viewer’s letter concerning her weight has gone viral.
The letter sent to Jennifer Livingston called into question her suitability to be on TV as her physical appearance could be a bad example for young girls.
The letter read: “I was surprised indeed to witness that your physical condition hasn't improved for many years. Surely you don't consider yourself a suitable example for this community's young people, girls in particular.
“Obesity is one of the worst choices a person can make and one of the most dangerous habits to maintain. I leave you this note hoping that you'll reconsider your responsibility as a local public personality to present and promote a healthy lifestyle”, it continued.
She responded to the viewer saying: “To the person who wrote me that letter, do you think I don't know that? That your cruel words are pointing out something I don't see?”
Livingston said she took the stand for her children, as due to bullying school yards had become a ‘battleground’.
She warned parents: “if you are at home and talking about the ‘fat news lady’, well guess what? Your kids are probably going to call somebody fat”.
Livingston claimed she had initially laughed off the letter - but her husband, also an anchor at the station, posted it to his Facebook page.
She concluded by thanking the hundreds of viewers who had written to her in support saying: “The cruel words of one are nothing compared to the shouts of many”.
