TV3 unveil details of new soap 'Red Rock' and Irish Gogglebox in mid-season update

TV3 are launching an Irish version of Gogglebox

TV3 has today announced the details of its much-hyped soap opera to rival Fair City.

'Red Rock' will air once a week, beginning from January 2015 and provide an estimated 100 jobs.

The broadcaster presented their new season update today at the Shelbourne Hotel, revealing plans to dramatically increase investment in original programming.

Major entertainment shows including an Irish version of Gogglebox and the return of The Lie and The Great Irish Bake Off are on the agenda; as are game shows Sitting on a Fortune and Algorithm.

TV3 landed the rights to the 2015 rugby world cup, UEFA Champions league and Europa League football.

New documentary series' in the works are 'Paramedics', 'Islanders' (filmed on the West Coast of Ireland), '24 Hour Shelter' and 'Lazy Chef''.

In addition to strong mainstay shows such as Xpose, they will also introduce a number of new faces including comedian Jason Byrne and economist David McWilliams.

Byrne is hosting a new chat show and Keith Barry's Brain Hacker series will also return.

International programmes include the return of Britain's Got Talent, The X Factor and Downton Abbey.

Jeff Ford, TV3's Group Director of Content explained: “2015 will be a landmark year for TV3 that will see the group invest the most it has ever done on home produced originated programming and a number of major entertainment co-productions.

"As Ireland’s leading commercial broadcaster, these are exciting times for TV3 and I look forward to fulfilling our strategic goals across our six programming genres that will define us against our competitors in 2015 and beyond; ‘Soap’, ‘Entertainment co-pro’s’, ‘Key Acquisitions’, ‘Sport and Events’, ‘Originated Factual’ and last but not least ‘Talent’.”
