Sile gets coveted holiday slot on radio
Former RTE afternoon television presenter Sile Seoige, right, is to begin holiday work with Newstalk.
She will host a daytime programme with the independent radio station for a week from August 17.
Providing holiday cover for Tom Dunne, the former TG4 presenter will host the weekday programme from 9am to noon.
"It's something I am really looking forward to," she said yesterday.
"I've done bits of radio here and there but to be hosting a radio programme on my own in this slot is brilliant."
Although there has been nothing to suggest any further extension of the role for Sile, the radio station must have been suitably impressed with her filling in for Mr Dunne yesterday morning while he was on a day off.
In recent months, she has been working as a roving radio reporter for various RTE radio shows, including Pat Kenny's 'Today' programme.
Starting her career on Irish language TV station TG4, Sile first came to national attention when she joined her sister and fellow former TG4 presenter Grainne on 'Seoige', an afternoon chat show on RTE.
However, since that programme was axed last year for what RTE said were financial reasons, the 30-year-old has struggled to find a permanent role on television despite intermittent slots on 'The Afternoon Show', and on travel show 'No Frontiers'.
