RTE’s Sean O’Rourke will host the traditional post-Budget interview with Finance Minister Michael Noonan – despite intense competition from Pat Kenny and Newstalk.
Mr Noonan and Public Expenditure Minister Brendan Howlin are to instead on the RTE Radio’s Today Show with Mr O’Rourke to discuss the impact of the Budget.
There has been intense competition between the two current affairs shows to secure the high-profile interview.
Mr Kenny had previously hosted the pre-Budget interview with the ministers when he was the presenter of RTE’s Today show. The interview is always held on the morning after the Budget –with the ministers being quizzed by listeners about the tax increases and spending cuts in the Budget.
A Department of Finance spokesman confirmed that the two ministers would be appearing on RTE Radio’s Today Show with Sean O’Rourke next Wednesday morning.
However, they are due to both appear on Newtalk’s “The Right Hook” show with George Hook next Wednesday afternoon.
RTE had previously insisted that Mr Noonan would be appearing on Mr O’Rourke’s show first. However, this is the first time the Department of Finance has confirmed this is the case.
