THEY were wide-eyed innocents in short pants and knee socks known for bringing the house down in their often hilarious interviews on the "new" service of Radio Telefis Eireann.
Now, some 50 years later, RTE has launched a nationwide appeal to find five former schoolchildren from Cork city who took part in the 1962 RTE series 'The School Around the Corner'.
RTE archivist Liam Wylie said the discovery of the Cork episode was a fitting one to celebrate the state broadcaster's 50th anniversary this year.
One of the show's participants, Stephen Butt (62), from Cork, has already responded to an appeal on Radio One's 'John Murray Show'.
The search is now on for the four other participants who took part in the Cork episode which RTE believes was shot at Collins Barracks in Cork city on either November 9 or December 9, 1962. It was broadcast on December 23, 1962.
