RTE has been tipped as the new destination for the 'Off the Ball' team after they sensationally retired from their evening slot on Newstalk.
Presenter Eoin McDevitt, Ken Early, Ciaran Murphy, Simon Hick and Mark Horgan resigned yesterday after over a decade on the popular evening sports show.
Paddy Power are already offering odds on where the ‘Off the Ball’ team will relocate after their parting of ways with Newstalk.
The Irish betting firm believes Eoin McDevitt and his crew are most likely to switch to RTE radio.
The odds on where the ‘Off the Ball’ team will get a permanent job next: RTE Radio 6/4, Talksport 3/1, 98fm 5/1, TV3 TV show 6/1, RTE TV show 8/1, Today FM 10/1, BBC Radio Five Live 16/1.
Speaking on last night's edition of 'Off the Ball', new presenter Ger Gilroy outlined why they had decided to leave.
He said: "The lads made a pitch to start the show every night at 6 o'clock and management couldn't accommodate that and the lads have decided to resign.
"All I really want to say about this now is that we're going to miss our friends Ken, Eoin, Mark, Simon and Murph.
"They are an amazing group of people to work with, they have helped change how sport is talked about in Ireland forever, they made great radio and they helped make radio great.
"We're all going to miss them and we wish them the very best in the future."
The team reportedly approached management last year and looked for a move to 6pm and a further move to 5pm in the future.
The station are understood to have offered them improved remuneration, including a web show starting at 6pm and a weekend slot but this was declined.
George Hook has denied that he had any prior knowledge of the row.
"I was not consulted about OTB; did not know about it and found out at the same time as the rest of the staff."
