THEY'RE the stalwarts of the long-running soap and have been there from the very beginning, but the Doyle family of 'Fair City' were left shaken this week with the death of a key member of the clan.
With the on-screen death of Rita (played by Jean Costello) on Sunday, the Carrigstown family has once again been reunited.
Tonight's episode will see Bela (Jimmy Bartley) and daughter Yvonne (Ciara O'Callaghan) bring home the late mother-of-six.
Suzanne (Sarah Flood), Louise (Leah Egan) and her fiance, Ryan (Chris Aylmer), will also return.
However, despite the sad reunion, tension rises between the siblings as Suzanne begins to boss Yvonne around.
Furthermore, the sisters clash when Suzanne announces she wants to stay in Australia, in turn leaving Yvonne to look after local restaurant 'Vinos' and Bela on his own.
But the community make sure to give Jean Costello's character a proper send-off – meeting in the well-known McCoys pub to celebrate her life.
The Doyles have been an integral part of the RTE programme since it started in 1989.
When the soap first aired, Bela was away living in England and sending cheques home to Rita and the six children – Helen, Jimmy, Yvonne, Suzanne, Darren and Louise.
Over the years, viewers have seen the characters come and go, with affairs, pregnancies, marriages, Australian visas and cancer scares keeping audiences entertained throughout.
Recent storylines saw a reconciliation between Yvonne and Rita, a split between Suzanne and Damien and Bela bowing out from 'Vinos'.
