The One Direction boys were asked what they have learnt since the beginning of their careers in show-business.

Although he had no answer at the time, Mullingar singer Niall Horan learnt something valuable during his stint on The Jonathan Ross Show this week - make sure you use the facilities before you go on a chat show.

“Can I by any chance go to the toilet?” he asked a bemused Ross.

The One Direction boys burst out laughing as they realised Horan genuinely needed to use the bathroom during the filming of the ITV1 programme.

“'There goes the most embarrassing moment of my life! I asked king @wossy could I go to the toilet! You just don't do that! I'm sorry,” the 20-year-old tweeted afterwards.

“But in my defence I would have never said anything if I didn't really need it ! the pain was just madness!” he added.

Niall was told by Ross that he would have to wait a couple of minutes until the end of their slot, but chat show host Oprah Winfrey later told Horan she would have let him leave the couch.
