Nancy Dell'Olio: 'Men are intimidated by my popularity'
Strictly Come Dancing star Nancy Dell'Olio says she scares men off - because she is so popular. The Italian businesswoman believes her position in the public eye is too much for her suitors.
In an interview with Hello! magazine, she also confirms she has put her relationship with theatre director Sir Trevor Nunn on hold.
Dell'Olio will be seen slipping into a sparkling figure-hugging gown later this week for her first live dance in the BBC1 ballroom contest.
But she reckons her high profile takes its toll on her relationships.
"I've had a few situations where men got scared of this, but this is my life - If a man cannot cope with all this ...," she said.
"My previous partner, he couldn't cope with my popularity. Men sometimes find it difficult to cope with a woman who is the centre of attention."
Dell'Olio rose to prominence as the girlfriend of former England football manager Sven-Goran Eriksson, and earlier this year spent time with Sir Trevor. But she said they have decided to cool things down.
"Trevor was busy doing The Tempest and I was busy with different things, so we decided that we needed a bit of time to think about it.
"The problem was that we were in the public eye too much, which was not our decision, and it was running too fast," she added.
The dark-haired lawyer has no worries about the unforgiving outfits she will have to wear on Strictly.
"I am quite confident about my body. I am much more confident than I was 10 or 20 years ago. Confidence has to come from inside you," she said.
"There has to be a reason why I've been the centre of attention for the past 10 years in this country," she continued. "People probably find something very fascinating or interesting about me."
She said she is enjoying her time with dance partner Anton Du Beke.
"We're having a lot of fun. He is very sophisticated, very intelligent, a proper gentleman."
