MRS Brown was the talk of the National Television Awards last night – but it wasn’t Brendan O’Carroll’s much loved Agnes, it was Eastenders’ star June.
O’Carroll’s hugely popular show won the coveted ‘Best Sitcom’ award at the bash last night, however when the actor went to the stage to accept his award, a tipsy-looking June Brown initially refused to hand it to him.
The actress, who plays Dot Cotton in Eastenders, was seen on camera a few minutes earlier with a glass of wine in her hand.
When Brendan tried to accept the award from her, she grabbed it back saying: “I’ve not given it to him yet and he’s grabbing it.”
The show’s host Dermot O’Leary then had to step in to get Brown to hand the award over to O’Carroll.
O’Leary awkwardly joked: “Hands up if you want to go on a night out with June!”
Mrs Brown's boys has been a ratings hit for both RTE and the BBC - The Christmas special pulled in over 1m viewers in Ireland and 17m in the UK.
