'LOVE/HATE' actor Robert Sheehan says he will turn down a starring role in a US remake of the RTE series unless it is radically re-invented across the Atlantic.

The 24-year-old, who plays hoodlum-with-a-heart Darren, was speaking after RTE revealed producers have optioned the Stuart Carolan-penned crime series for a US remake.

He was asked if he had signed on for the fourth series of the drama but remained coy. "Maybe. We shall see," he said, sparking speculation about his character's fate in the season finale on Sunday.

The US 'Love/Hate' might have to do without the Portlaoise actor who has been key to its success. "Sometimes you see a UK show that has been remade in America, and it's exactly the same, so creatively it seems pointless," he said. "It seems like America is this gigantic machine that tries to remake everything."

Meanwhile, art lovers browsing the window of the Apollo Gallery in Dublin's Dawson Street found canvasses of the show's stars Nidge and Darren on sale for €950 each.
