Latest US import has hallmarks of unsubtle soap opera

In Betrayal, RTÉ Two's latest American import, married Chicago photographer Sara has a torrid affair with attorney Jack. Unfortunately, Jack is working for a corrupt billionaire whom Sara's hubby is intent on bringing to justice. Oh what a tangled web they're weaving.

The show has all the hallmarks of a glitzy and unsubtle soap opera, though Stuart Townsend brings some smouldering sex appeal to Jack, while Hannah Ware (who was very good as Kelsey Grammer's troubled daughter in the excellent but little-seen Boss) is undeniably fetching as Sara.

And there's always James Cromwell, who can be shiveringly sinister in the right role (the police chief in LA Confidential), playing the ruthless billionaire.
