The former UNICEF Ireland director has said there is no animosity between herself and her lover's former spouse Morah Ryan.
Melanie dated RTE presenter Gerry for two years and the couple were in a relationship when he died suddenly on April 30, 2010.
Speaking on Today FM yesterday, Melanie said that she and Moira have had little interaction.
"It's not that Moira Ryan and I don't get along, it's just we didn't meet until next to Gerry's coffin," she explained on The Last Word with Matt Cooper.
"To expect us then, after the worst possible circumstances in the world, to become best friends -- it's not realistic.
"We just don't know each other, we never met before and we haven't had the opportunity to meet subsequently except at the inquest which was not the best place to meet of course."
Melanie released a controversial memoir about her and Gerry's romance.

"Part of the mourning process was to honour my promise to him to talk about him and I couldn't think of any other way of doing that," she said.
"An interview was never going to do it, especially after everything that happened, so the only thing I could do was write the book. I stand by absolutely everything I said in the book."
After finding love with Gerry, Melanie insisted she does not know if she will ever meet a new partner.
"Intellectually I'm open to it but emotionally I don't know, I'm not 100pc sure yet if life affords you that kind of happiness more than once," she said.
