HE'S lost the trademark 'Nidge' shaven head and dropped the strong Dublin accent.

'Love/Hate' star Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, known to millions as gangster Nidge, was barely recognisable as he enthralled an audience with tales of his training in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

As the fourth series of the crime drama airs this coming Sunday, Vaughan-Lawlor took part in a symposium at Trinity College Dublin as part of the Dublin Theatre Festival and The Gathering.

He was joined by actress Fiona Shaw, playwright Nancy Harris and director Gavin Quinn for the event, entitled 'Voyage and Return'.

After discussing his classical acting training, Vaughan-Lawlor said his portrayal of Nidge was "informed by my reading of Shakespeare".

The latest series of 'Love/Hate' sees undercover garda detectives added to the storyline.
