Irish Glee star Damian McGinty pays tribute to tragic Cory Monteith
IRISH actor Damian McGinty has told of his grief following the death of his Glee co-star, Cory Monteith.
Damian (21) shared his first scene in the hit series with tragic Cory (31) in 2011.
The actor said Cory told him about the problems he experienced when he was a teenager. Cory, who played Finn in 'Glee', was just 19 when he went to rehab to the first time in a bid to beat his drug addiction.
Speaking on 2FM's Colm Hayes show, Damian said he will never forget the kind words of advice Cory gave him on his first day on set.n "Cory was one of the nicest guys I've ever met. He was so nice and so willing to help you out.
"I'll always remember the advice he gave me, that bad stuff will come your way with the good, but stay true to yourself.
"I walked with him back to our trailer after my first day of filming on Glee and he told me about some of the problems he had when he was younger.
"He said he was so grateful to have another chance and wanted to do everything to help and inspire others."
The Derry native played Irish exchange student Rory Flanagan in the TV series.
Damian said that he heard the sad news on Saturday night.
"I'm in LA, we're on a hiatus at the moment, and I got a call from the casting director.
"I was in total shock when I found out, I still can't believe it, this can't be real.
"We've all been better, it's tragic."
Cory was found dead in a hotel room in his native city of Vancouver on Saturday afternoon.
The cause of his death is unknown - but the actor has spoken of his past addiction to drugs and checked into a rehab facility last April.
Friends of Cory have insisted the TV star "remained committed" to his sobriety after leaving rehab in May.
An autopsy is expected to take place soon.
