Aoibhinn Ni Shuilleabhain has been lined up to take over Miriam O'Callaghan's Sunday slot on RTE Radio 1.

Ryan Tubridy's girlfriend will host 'Aoibhinn & Company' for 10 weeks, starting on July 14.

It comes after the decision to end mum-of-eight O'Callaghan's show 'Miriam Meets'.

Mayo-born Ni Shuilleabhain, a former Rose of Tralee, told the Irish Independent that nerves will be high taking on her first Radio 1 slot.

But she has received some sound advice from fellow presenters.

"I've picked up a few tips here and there, but this is huge for me, so of course I'll be nervous," she said.

"There's a great team though and I'll just bow to their knowledge. I've done a lot of filling in stages over the years on radio."

Ni Shuilleabhain was approached by RTE two weeks ago about fronting the summer lifestyle offering. She will be joined weekly by guests for an hour-long interview.

The 29-year-old is currently filming forthcoming episodes of RTE travel show 'Getaways', as well as another instalment of 'Science Squad'.

In addition, the presenter is doing a PhD in mathematics at Trinity College Dublin.

The former teacher said the summer months will now prove busier than the rest of her year.

"It was all quite sudden and I'll fit it in with difficulty, but it's not something you could turn down."

O'Callaghan, meanwhile, told the Irish Independent that due to her commitments at the national broadcaster, she could not continue with 'Miriam Meets' as she would be working seven days a week.
