It's the role that propelled her to fame, but Gillian Anderson prefers playing Stella Gibson over Dana Scully.
SHE will forever be known as one half of Mulder and Scully.
But actress Gillian Anderson said she prefers her role of Detective Inspector Stella Gibson over X-Files' Agent Dana Scully.
The London-based actress leads a stellar cast in hit RTE/BBC murder drama The Fall, the first series of which came to an end on Sunday night.
She has received rave reviews for her portrayal of Gibson, who is desperately trying to track down serial killer Paul Spector, played by Irish actor Jamie Dornan (31).
Anderson felt immediately at home taking on the role.
"Stella is probably one of my favourite characters," she said in a recent interview.
"I feel like Stella is closer to me than anybody I've played before."
The show has already been given a green light for a second series and enjoyed its best ratings yet for Sunday's season finale on RTE, with 424,400 viewers tuning in.
Millions more viewers across Ireland and the UK turned in last night when BBC2 screened the finale.
Filming on the second series is due to begin in the New Year.
