Panto queen Adele King, aka Twink, has revealed her recent weight loss for the first time after she dropped four stone and two pounds.

It was a photo of her former self in 2005 that spurred her on. “I had been through hell before that picture was taken, but I was determined to get on with my life and career as best I could as a single mother,” she said.

The mother-of-two, to Chloe and Naomi, explained that the intervening years were more difficult than she predicted and she was not taking care of herself.

Eating

“In the ensuing years, it wasn’t as easy a road as I had imagined. I was always last on the list of being looked after.

“My spare time was spent eating and drinking, I lost focus, lost the plot - I lost myself,” she added.

One evening, late at night, she decided to change her ways and she hasn’t looked back since.

“I was alone in the house one night, walking up the stairs with a big plate of food and a bottle of wine, and I looked at that photo and cried,” she said.

She turned on her heels and that’s when the journey began.

“I went straight back to the kitchen, gave the food to the dogs, put the wine back in the fridge, and I haven’t looked back since.”

It was only recently when she weighed herself she realised the amount of weight she had lost and immediately told one of her children.

Screaming

“I went screaming into my daughter’s bedroom - after weighing myself and realising I had lost four stone and two pounds,” said Twink.

The singer and actress has spent the last two Christmases taking the lead in the Limerick pantos and when she wasn’t on stage she’s been busy in the kitchen creating the dramatic and detailed sugar-craft cakes for which she’s become famous. “I’ve been asked to make cakes for friends’ weddings, birthday parties - I even did one for Gay Byrne’s grand children,” she said.
