THE Voice of Ireland presenter Eoghan McDermott was the target of death threats from angry One Direction fans on Twitter after jokingly referring to Niall Horan as "an a**hole".

Horan was running late for webchat when McDermott tweeted him: “Such a lying inconsiderate a**hole. You make me sick to my stomach. Maybe even past my stomach into my intestines and colon.”

The Mullingar native tweeted his apologies for running late saying: “I am like 15 mins from home! So will be straight on ! Promise! Sorry dude!”

However angry One Direction fans didn’t get the joke, and responded to the RTE presenter’s tweet with violent threats.

One tweeted: “hey mcdermott, how would you feel if i punched you in the mcface?”

While another said: “dont say anything to him or you will get hurt. keep ya opinion to urself, k”

Another grammatically challenged One Direction fan told the presenter: “i dont no wat u said but dont u ever say anything about my niall i will hunt u down old man”.

The Voice presenter found the tweets amusing, as he re-tweeted his favourites saying: “This is the funniest thing that's happened in a long time. Quality entertainment!”

Aggressive One Direction fans on Twitter have previously targeted the girlfriend and family of band member Louis Tomlinson, as well as presenter Caroline Flack after her brief relationship with Harry Styles.
