VETERAN broadcaster Gay Byrne (79) has been forced to cancel two of his planned one-man shows due to a serious dose of flu – the first time in his career of more than half a century.
He has cancelled shows in Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, tonight, and Virginia, Co Cavan, tomorrow.
Speaking to the Irish Independent, the veteran broadcaster apologised to his fans. "It's going around, as they say. My doctor says to me that the people of Castleblayney and Virginia will get over not seeing Gay, but if I go on stage I may not be coming back," he said light-heartedly.
