Take That star Gary Barlow could write the X Factor winner's first single.

Show bosses have discussed the possibility of the chief judge lending his expertise to the victor.

Last year, winner Matt Cardle took a Biffy Clyro track, When We Collide - renamed from its original title Many Of Horror - to the top of the charts.

No decision has yet been made about whether Barlow will be behind this year's winner's track when it is released in December.

But he has written for a number of other artists, including Cardle's next single Run For Your Life as well as Westlife and Will Young.

Writing the winning song would bring in tens of thousands of pounds in royalty payments and income from airplay.

A spokesman for Barlow said: "It has been talked about but it is way too early to tell what's going to happen with Gary, and him writing any of the finalists' songs, including the winner."
