The popular series will suffer a setback as “pivotal” scene is forbidden by Dubrovnik church.
According to sources, the production team have been forbidden from shooting a scene whereby central character Cersei Lannister walks through a church naked.
In the scene, Cersei (played by Lena Headey, below,) embarks on a ‘walk of penance’ through the streets of King’s Landing.
The scene was scheduled to be shot on Stradun street, between Dubrovnik cathedral and the Sponza Palace in the Croatian capital.
According to TMZ, the Croatian church is staunchly against public displays of sexuality and as a result the local film commission will not give producers a permit to film the scene.
The producers are now stuck in a difficult place as they can’t cut such a crucial scene from the series and it is also an iconic and memorable moment from the book.
The series, currently shooting its fifth season, is nominated in an incredible 19 categories in tonight’s Emmy Awards.
The majority of the episodes are filmed on location across Northern Ireland and the show receives funding from Northern Ireland Screen supported by Invest NI and part funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards take place tonight at NOKIA Theatre L.A. live in Los Angeles.
