'Love/Hate' stars Laurence Kinlan (Elmo) (left) and Peter Coonan (Fran) join independent.ie for a chat before the season finale.

Actor Peter Coonan and his girlfriend are celebrating the birth of their daughter.

Peter (27), who plays Fran in RTE’s gangland series ‘Love/Hate’, and his partner spent the weekend bonding with their baby girl at the National Maternity Hospital Holles Street.

Kim went into labour and gave birth on Saturday.

While it is not yet known what name they will bestow upon their little girl, both mum and baby are said to be doing well.

Fran is currently filming for the fifth series of the RTE drama.

He was hoping he would be present for the birth – and was no doubt thrilled his little girl arrived while he was off set.

Before her entry in to the world, Peter had insisted he would be a ‘hands-on’ dad.

“I’m really looking forward to the whole thing, the entire experience,” he said.

He met Kim through friends and the pair have been dating for a year.

Peter is the second cast member of the ‘Love/Hate’ cast to welcome a child during the current filming session of the show.

Laurence Kinlan, who plays Elmo, became a dad for the second time in March.
