The Joneses (2009)

HHH

Film4, 11.05pm

Demi Moore and David Duchovny star in this clever little film from Derrick Borte about a seemingly perfect suburban family. Moore is Kate Jones, a glamorous middle-aged mother whose family causes quite a stir when they move to a wealthy, exclusive neighbourhood.

Her husband Steve (David Duchovny) is a scratch golfer and easy-going charmer who soon becomes a kind of idol among the local men, and their teenage children seem to be equally perfect. But in fact they're not a real family at all but a bunch of strangers hired by a marketing company to surreptitously promote their goods.

And things get good and complicated when Steve begins to develop real feelings for his pretend wife. With Ben Hollingsworth, Amber Heard, Glenne Headly and Gary Cole.

The Hunt for Red October (1990) HHH

Channel 4, 12.35pm

A young Alec Baldwin stars in this entertaining John McTiernan thriller as CIA officer Jack Ryan, who finds himself at the centre of a tense Cold War stand-off when a disabled Russian nuclear submarine appears in the waters off northeastern America. Sean Connery and Scott Glenn co-star.

The Unforgiven (1960)

HHHH

TCM, 5.05pm

Not to be confused with Clint Eastwood's 1992 western, this fine John Huston drama stars Audrey Hepburn as Rachel Zachary, the beautiful daughter of a frontier family who causes a scandal when it's revealed that she was born a Native American. With Burt Lancaster and Audie Murphy.

The Dictator (2012)

HH

Sky Movies Comedy, 8.00pm

Sasha Baron Cohen stars in this crude comedy about Admiral General Aladeen, the mad and capricious dictator of an oil-rich country who is summoned to the UNwhen it's discovered that he's building an atom bomb. With Ben Kingsley.

The Replacement Killers (1998) HHH

TCM, 9.00pm

Chow Yun-Fat stars in this entertaining thriller as a hitman whose conscience gets the better of him when he's hired by a Triad boss to kill the child of a Los Angeles cop. When he fails to carry out the hit he's forced to go on the run. With Mira Sorvino, Michael Rooker, Jurgen Prochnow and Danny Trejo.

The Italian Job (2003)

HHH

Sky Movies Action, 10.45pm

Not, sadly, the 1969 Michael Caine original, but a blandly efficient 2003 remake, starring Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron, Edward Norton and Jason Statham, concentrating on a criminal gang's attempts to get their own back on a master thief who swindled them out of a cache of stolen gold. With Donald Sutherland.
