Film Highlights Tuesday
Channel 4, 12.20am
In Ridley Scott's breathtaking and unsurpassed 1979 science-fiction classic, Sigourney Weaver (above), John Hurt, Tom Skerritt and Harry Dean Stanton are among the weary crew of the interstellar cargo ship Nostromo who are awakened from their hibernation by a distress signal from a windswept planet.
On the surface they find an abandoned ship and a nest of strange, luminous eggs. One of the astronauts is examining an egg when it bursts open and a green claw-like object attaches itself to his face.
When he's rushed back to the ship, he brings with him a creature that explodes from his stomach and hides in the ship, where it develops into a remorseless killing machine.
Ian Holm and Yaphet Kotto co-star in this gripping and almost unbearably tense thriller.
