Film Highlights Friday

Dumb and Dumber (1994)

TV3, 9pm

With a sequel on the way later this year, here's another chance to enjoy the sublime stupidity of 'Dumb and Dumber'.

The first feature from Peter and Bobby Farrelly, the film set the gleefully crude tone that would mature into huge hits like 'There's Something About Mary'.

Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels play Lloyd and Harry, a limo driver and pet groomer who are the best of buddies. When Lloyd gives a beautiful woman called Mary (Lauren Holly) a lift to the airport, he notices her seemingly leaving a briefcase behind her in the terminal. Full of money, it's actually the ransom for her kidnapped husband, but Lloyd thinks she's lost it and sets out across America with Harry to give it back to her, getting into all manner of scrapes along the way. My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002)

Sky Movies Drama, 4.25pm

Nia Vardolos wrote and stars in this lively romantic comedy about a 30-year-old Greek-American woman who shocks her traditional parents by falling in love, not with a nice Greek boy as expected, but with a rich east coast WASP. With John Corbett.

An Inspector Calls (1954)

Film Four, 4.45pm

Guy Hamilton's stylish whodunit is based on a famous stage play and stars Alastair Sim as Inspector Poole, a wily detective who interrupts a wealthy family's dinner to inform them that a poor girl they all knew has died in suspicious circumstances. With Jane Wenham, Bryan Forbes and Eileen Moore.

The World is Not Enough (1999)

UTV, 10.40pm

When a billionaire British oil tycoon is assassinated and his daughter becomes the target of a kidnapping plot, only one man is qualified to save her – and the planet. Pierce Brosnan is James Bond, Robert Carlyle is the deranged baddie and Sophie Marceau and Denise Richards provide the glamour.

The Enforcer (1976)

TV3, 12.10am

Harry Callaghan adds sexism to his rich range of prejudices when he's lumbered with a female partner following the death of the last one in this third Dirty Harry outing. Kate Moore (Tyne Daly), however, is tougher than she seems, and together they set out to prevent a terrorist group from bringing mayhem to the streets of San Francisco.

Lone Star (1996)

BBC2, 12.10am

Chris Cooper stars in this fine western-cum-murder mystery from John Sayles. When Texas sheriff Sam Deeds is called to a remote corner of the Rio County desert to investigate the discovery of a 40-year-old skeleton, he begins to unearth more than he would like about his late father.
