Revolutionary Road (2009)
Based on a novel by Richard Yates, 'Revolutionary Road' is set in mid-1950s America and stars Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio as Frank and April Wheeler, a seemingly perfect couple. The Wheelers are handsome, have two pretty children and live in a fine house in a pristine suburb, but behind the drapes all is not well.
The Wheelers have a secret contempt for their complacent neighbours, and are convinced that they were meant for better things, but their social ambition is only papering over the cracks of a marriage that's about to implode.
Directed by Sam Mendes, 'Revolutionary Road' is at times so unflinching in its depiction of marital discord that it's almost hard to watch, but it's a compelling drama and Kate Winslet is superb as the brave but fatally damaged April.
The Man from Colorado (1948)
Channel 4, 12.45pm
Dark western starring William Holden as a captain in the Union army who becomes concerned when his best friend and superior officer Colonel Deveraux opens fire on surrendering Conderate troops and then keeps on killing after the Civil War ends. Glenn Ford and Ellen Drew co-star.
David Fincher's brilliantly constructed thriller is based on the true story of the seemingly senseless Zodiac killings that terrorised San Francisco in the late 1960s, and stars Jake Gyllenhaal as a newspaper cartoonist who becomes obsessed with solving the case. With Mark Ruffalo.
The Last Hard Men (1976)
Western drama set in the early years of the 20th century and starring James Coburn as Zach Provo, a half-Indian renegade who escapes from prison with six salty comrades and sets out to find and kill the lawman he thinks was responsible for the death of his wife. With Charlton Heston.
This problematic comic thriller from Tony Gilroy stars Clive Owen and Julia Roberts as government agents with a romantic past who reluctantly join forces in order to get their hands on priceless information about a revolutionary new cosmetic product. With Tom Wilkinson and Paul Giamatti.
Channel 4, 12.05am
Jason Reitman and Diablo Cody's charming 2007 comedy stars Ellen Page as Juno, a plucky young high school girl who reacts with commendable aplomb when she becomes pregnant after a one-night stand with a mild-mannered classmate. With Jason Bateman and Michael Cera.
