Film Highlight Tuesday
Sky Movies Premiere, 6.15pm
Written and directed by young Irish filmmaker Alan Brennan, 'Earthbound' is a whimsical but ambitious little film that tries to fuse romcom with sci-fi thriller on a shoestring budget and almost gets away with it.
Rafe Spall (above) stars as Joe Norman, a lonely young man who is haunted by the premature death of his beloved father. Bill Norman (Neil Morrissey) died when his son was only 11 years of age, but before he did pass away, he confided in Joe about a daring escape from an alien planet that made the boy believe he was really an extraterrestrial.
He still scours the dark night sky for traces of his home planet, and when he takes the decision to share his secret with his new girlfriend Maria (Jenn Murray), he unleashes all sorts of unintended consequences.
