elegy for a kennedy widow

Ethel (Sky Atlantic), an award-winning profile of Robert Kennedy's widow, was made by her youngest daughter, Rory, who was born six months after his killing in 1968.

Most of the subject's 11 children contributed their reminiscences to this fond, elegiac film, while Ethel herself recalled her life and times as the spouse of one of America's most enigmatic public figures.

This was a partial profile that didn't dwell on the entitlement and privilege of the people it was portraying, but it was engrossing on its own terms and its subject emerged as a formidable person in her own right, dutiful in her marriage but bracingly liberal in her social and political views.
